Ductless Heat Pumps
(also known as mini-split systems)
-
A ductless heat pump is part of a home heating and cooling system that connects to your home’s ductwork. Like an air conditioner such as central air, it can cool your home, but it’s also capable of providing heat. In cooler months, a heat pump pulls heat from the cold outdoor air and transfers it indoors, and in warmer months, it pulls heat out of indoor air to cool your home.
-
Energy Efficiency: Ductless heat pumps use electricity to move heat rather than generating it, making them more energy-efficient than fossil fuel furnaces and electric resistance heating.
Zoning: They allow for “zoning,” meaning you can control the temperature in individual rooms
No Ductwork: Since they don’t require ducts, ductless systems are ideal for homes or buildings that don’t have existing ductwork, like older homes, or for room additions and renovations.
Flexibility in Installation: The indoor units are compact and can be mounted on walls or ceilings, providing more flexibility in where they are installed.
Heating and Cooling: Ductless heat pumps are capable of both heating and cooling, providing year-round comfort.
Improved Air Quality: Ductless heat pumps include filters that can help improve indoor air quality by capturing dust, allergens, and other particles. Some models have advanced filtration systems to further improve air cleanliness.
Quieter Operation: Ductless heat pumps tend to operate more quietly than traditional HVAC systems, which can make for a more comfortable living environment.
Long Lifespan: With proper maintenance, ductless heat pumps can last a long time, typically 20 years or more, depending on the model and care.
